Services for Families

Contact me to arrange a complimentary initial consultation via phone, Zoom or email.

During this contact I can listen to your concerns and determine whether I might be able to help.

Initial assessment

I see children and young people in the familiar setting of their own home, school or nursery. This where they are generally most at ease and I can see the best example of their communication skills.

The session will include discussion with you and/or education professionals to gather information about your child’s strengths, needs and development. I will also look at any written information you provide from other professionals, such as Teachers, Psychologists, Paediatricians, Occupational Therapists and ABA tutors.

If the visit takes place at nursery or school, I will often observe your child in that setting and then spend time working with them directly. Depending on their age and ability, this may be informal and play-based or may include formal standardised tests to explore their speech, language and communication needs.

This will be followed by a brief report and suggested therapy plan. A more detailed report, such as that required to contribute to an EHCP, is also available upon request.

The most common outcomes of an initial assessment are:

  • Recommended course of direct therapy delivered by a Speech and Language Therapist
  • A programme of therapy to be delivered by others, e.g. parents and school/nursery
  • No further support required

Therapy

I am trained in the use of a wide range of techniques and strategies to support children and young people to develop their:

  • Use of speech sounds
  • Understanding of language
  • Use of language
  • Inferential reasoning and higher level language skills
  • Social communication and interaction skills

I take an eclectic approach to therapy, using aspects of different approaches to create a programme tailored to each person’s individual needs.

The frequency of therapy sessions will be determined by the needs of the child/young person and parental preference.

Remote Working

For those further afield or for young people who prefer this medium, therapy can also be delivered remotely via Zoom, Google Meets, or another platform of your choice.
